Rickes Associates (RA) provided a detailed analysis of classroom utilization patterns as well as recommendations for a proposed campus-wide distribution of classrooms by capacity.
Tasks involved in the study included meetings with key administrators, a walk-through of all classrooms, and a faculty survey. As part of this analysis, RA reviewed weekly room use hours,
seat occupancy rates, and student station size.
These findings were then synthesized to help determine the sufficiency of
classroom space, the availability of desired technology and amenities, the
impact of deferred maintenance, and the role of current space allocation and
utilization practices. Recommendations included a future array of classrooms by
capacity as well as potential
changes in facilities and scheduling methods.
The Utilization Study was
updated in 2009 with a Demand Analysis to determine the number, capacities, and
sizes of classrooms needed. Additionally, a focused analysis was performed on
Nursing and Social Work courses to address their primary classroom needs in a
planned new academic building. Data was collected and reviewed, and meetings
were held with key administrators and staff to discuss perceived space
inadequacies or concerns. The resulting report identified overall need, reviewed
specific scenarios, and provided targeted recommendations.
