Established in 1878, Champlain College enrolls 2,000 FTE undergraduate and graduate students. The master plan began with an investigation of strategic-related issues, conducted in conjunction with interviews and focus groups involving members of each academic and administrative unit. This was done to gain an understanding of current and future plans of the College.
An evaluation of current instructional and office space was performed to help identify opportunities for collocation and promotion of synergies between and among occupants. A detailed instructional space utilization analysis revealed current and preferred academic scheduling patterns. Examination of existing office assignments quantified individual office square footages, identified issues of fragmentation and cohesiveness, and explored opportunities to accommodate growth.
Current and future instructional and office space needs were then be quantified based upon the information collected throughout the study. Associated space planning guidelines were also articulated. (2006)
