Hudson, New York • FIVE-YEAR FACILITIES MASTER PLAN
Rickes Associates was engaged to provide strategic and space programming services in support of a Campus Educational Space Master Plan for Columbia-Greene Community College.
Columbia-Greene Community College (CGCC), located in the Capital Region of New York, occupies 161,000 assignable square feet (ASF) encompassing eight buildings. At the time of this study in 2015, CGCC enrolled 2,047 students (headcount). With declining enrollment, the study goal was to inform and respond to changes in student expectations, programs, pedagogy, and area economic need. A review of projected job openings by occupation was conducted and these job growth areas were then aligned with programs offered by CGCC to identify possible areas for expansion. Of the 13 top occupations in the area, CGCC offered programs related to: Nursing, Medical Assistants, Teaching, and Technicians. Overlaid on the quantitative analysis was a SWOT analysis (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threats) conducted over three days with a combination of internal and external community members, which also identified similar program needs. Based on the integrated findings of academic program expansion to meet community needs, and the application of associated space planning guidelines, an additional 10,000 ASF was identified. The intent was to address existing deficits in lounge and student areas, and to support possible program expansion.
