Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) will open a new campus on Russky Island,
near Vladivostok, Russia, in 2012. The centerpiece of this new campus, a
University Center, is envisioned as the heart of the FEFU community, as well as
that of the island as whole. At its opening, the new campus is expected to house
8,000 students, eventually growing to 16,000 at full capacity.
The concept of a University Center supports the belief that a well-designed and
administered facility sustained by a well-conceived program of activities can
have significant impact in assisting the institution to achieve its educational
mission. In the case of FEFU, the center's unique
combination of programs and spaces will establish a sense of community and
identify for the new campus.
Detailed program information for a building of nearly 390,000 gsf (235,000
asf) was presented, housing a spectrum of activities and services. Encompassing
Student Activities, Student Affairs, Student Services, Food Service, Retail,
Information Commons, Conference, and Support spaces, the planned University
Center will respond to the diverse needs of a growing, modern higher education
institution.
