FORDHAM UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW | SPACE NEEDS & PROGRAM STUDY | 2006
Celebrating its Centennial in 2006, the School of Law enrolls 1,500 students. Rickes Associates was chosen to prepare a pre-architectural space program to quantify room-by-room space needs. The new multi-level building on Fordham's Lincoln Center campus will replace existing facilities situated on multiple sites.
Review of comprehensive data helped lay the appropriate planning groundwork. Quantitative data were collected and analyzed, including student demographics and projected enrollments, space utilization and scheduling, and faculty and staff projections. Exploration of strategic-related issues provided a framework for the future direction of the School. Interviews with faculty, staff, and students elicited qualitative concepts.
A web-based survey was distributed to faculty to identify preferred teaching methods. As part of a peer benchmarking study, a series of quantifiable components were collected via an electronic survey. Current students were also electronically surveyed.
A detailed space program was formulated for the new facility, building upon and integrating the outcomes of the prior phases. The program included both
"core" and "enhanced" square footage recommendations permitting flexibility during the design phase. (2006)
