Founded shortly after the end of the Civil War, Howard University is an HBI
enrolling over 10,000 students and awarding undergraduate, graduate, and
first-professional degrees. The University has a number of colleges and schools,
including Medicine, Law, Dentistry, Business, Divinity, and Arts and Sciences,
among others. As part of the master planning team, Rickes Associates
participated in planning meetings to better understand the mission
and strategic direction of the University. Data pertaining to the scheduling of
instructional space was also documented.
An instructional space utilization analysis
was completed for the campus and included those spaces scheduled with credit-bearing courses in both general-purpose classrooms and specialized instructional
spaces for a total of 300 spaces. Findings indicated that the existing
instructional space on campus is generally adequate to support current course
scheduling and enrollment. Recommendations included centralizing the course
scheduling process, data, and updating the space inventory for the University
as a whole.
