The College of Santa Fe (CSF) is a small, private, liberal arts college specializing in the creative arts. It serves 800 full-time students on its residential campus in Santa Fe and another 1,000 students through evening courses at its Albuquerque campus. CSF offers programs in the humanities, education, business, conservation science, and social sciences. Its arts programs include performing, visual, moving image, and creative writing. In 2003, CSF undertook a campus master plan to define its capital priorities for the next 10 years.
Rickes Associates (RA) analyzed and reported on campus space issues in general, and conducted a classroom utilization analysis to propose specific recommendations for instructional spaces. Among the planning issues to be addressed were the fragmentation of departments and units across
buildings, and the perception that some departments "owned" the classrooms in their area. This perceived ownership led to scheduling conflicts and underuse of the spaces.
The overall space needs associated with the projected 1,000 FTE students encompassed 300,000 to 400,000 assignable square feet of non-residential space. An additional 100,000 asf for new residential space was also recommended. (2004)
