TEACHERS COLLEGE OF COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY
SPACE INVENTORY DEVELOPMENT & UTILZATION ANALYSIS | 2006
Initial services included verifying, updating, and digitizing existing floor plans for 400,000 assignable square feet. As part of this process, each space was assigned an appropriate NCES code, organization, department, and sub-department. This culminated in the creation of a comprehensive inventory of all spaces at the College in a relational database. Elements associated with indirect cost recovery were also incorporated into the database.
A utilization analysis of offices and instructional space on campus was then conducted to identify current occupancy patterns and associated square footage for administrative units and academic departments. The instructional space utilization analysis established the hours of use, percent seats filled, and square footage per station in order to determine future instructional space needs.
Opportunities and constraints associated with particular spaces or groups of spaces were also identified. Space planning guidelines helped inform the decision-making process. (2006)
