UNIVERSITY OF RHODE ISLAND | CLASSROOM UTILIZATION STUDY | 2004
The University of Rhode Island identified the need to review the distribution and use of the 110 classrooms on its main campus in Kingston, particularly in relation to renovation work being performed on one of the major classroom buildings and the construction of new buildings. Of foremost concern was the ability to reclaim the appropriate instructional space in the major classroom building (scheduled for renovation), as well as to address the desire to bring other departmentally related courses back to this one building.
For this project, Rickes Associates assessed current utilization patterns – both in general, then by building, and finally, by departmental distribution. In addition, program growth and the impact of this on instructional need were also reviewed.
The outcome consisted of recommended adjustments to both the number and mix of classroom space. A full phasing table was provided listing the available rooms as they cycled on- and off-line through the year 2009. (2004)
