Benefiting students, faculty, and alumni alike, the
Office of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is an instrumental part of the
University of Vermont community. As part of this study, Rickes Associates
assessed DAR’s current and projected space needs, using both quantitative and
qualitative analysis. The study evaluated space reallocation possibilities
within DAR’s main facility, known as Grasse Mount, and that of the Wells
Mansion, a newly acquired property located next door. The study also evaluated
the potential incorporation of departmental functions currently housed elsewhere
on campus and in offsite leased space.
Encompassing extensive data collection and
assessment, interviews with appropriate individuals, and walk-throughs of the
various spaces, the study also addressed an anticipated realignment of the
functions and relationships of the departments in DAR, as proposed by department
management.
RA developed test fit scenarios that identified
recommended occupancy strategies for Grasse Mount and the Wells Mansion. After
review from the DAR Steering Committee, RA prepared a final space program of
20,044 asf for the two buildings, recommending specific actions to help DAR make
effective use of its properties in the future.
